A Good Roll

Nostalgia…comes in many flavours.  Nostalgia also features ellipses, and sometimes tissues, and, for the VGF among us, carbs.

While tackling the rolls my grandmother makes for Thanksgiving to make them vegan and gluten-free will probably never yield a perfectly white piece of bread, I can make a bread that’s pretty darn close to the rolls served at the now-defunct chain restaurant Steak and Ale.  (By the way, you should donate to Wikipedia.  It’s worth your while to support the free sharing of knowledge.)  The molasses and buckwheat flour colour these rolls a pumpernickel brown, while I’m sure it was caramel colour and a heck of a lot more sweetener that gave the Steak and Ale bread its dark sweetness.

My Brother’s Favourite Cookie: Butterscotch Chip Crunchers

As I ate Nature’s Path Mesa Sunrise with almond milk, I realised that eating cereal is actually quite pleasurable and why don’t I do it more often?  Said I, I usually have oatmeal for breakfast, and since oats are a blank slate, they’re good for all meals of the day, and they can be ground into flour.  Cereal’s somewhat one-dimensional since it generally retains a breakfast connotation.  Or it’s dessert (hello, my freshman year of college: salad and cereal for supper.  I made being vegetarian and eating healthful meals…challenging).

Spending weekends with Wikipedians I think is going to become a new habit.  Attending GLAMcamp last weekend and organising the Wikipedia edit-a-thon at Princeton University’s Mudd Manuscript Library have really made me appreciate the collaborative spirit of Wikipedia and the people who edit it.  Sharing knowledge just may be more fun than “I have a secret!  I just can’t tell you.”

A Slice of the Wiki Pie

Greetings from the National Archives in Washington, D.C.!  I’m attending the Wikipedia GLAMcamp D.C. in order to learn more about how I, as a student worker at my school’s archives, can facilitate GLAM-Wikipedia collaboration.  You can learn more about GLAMs and Wikipedia here.
